That playacting ended today. Russian troops are reportedly being sent to Kursk from Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and possibly Donbas, revealing that the Russians recognize the growing threat, that their response has been inadequate if not downright disastrous and that this is a serious breach requiring serious countermeasures...if they can organize themselves to take any. JL
Veronika Melkozerova and Ali Walker report in Politico.Eu:
Russia pulled troops out of southern Ukraine and back into its own territory to try to fend off an escalating incursion by Kyiv’s forces. “Russia has relocated some of its units from both Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. It has been relocating personnel to “other directions, including to Kursk. 74 (Russian) communities are now under Ukrainian control." An ally of Putin pointed the finger at Russia’s military for not being prepared to stave off a Ukrainian attack and added that Russian border troops were the last to receive information about the Ukrainian offensive, leaving them scant time to act.
