Russian advances in 2025 are the slowest (since the invasion began). Data reveal that since the beginning of the year, Russia’s progress has fluctuated within the smallest ranges compared to all previous periods. "Claiming that the Russian army is advancing on the front line and has the potential to move forward is simply an element of the Kremlin propaganda machine."Defense Express analyst Serhiy Zgurets stated that since the beginning of the year, the occupying Russian army has shown the slowest advance on the frontline compared to previous periods
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"Regarding the situation on the front. Currently, Russia is indeed using propaganda clichés in an attempt to further intimidate Ukraine and European countries, claiming that the Russian army is advancing on the front line and has the potential to move forward. However, this is simply an element of the propaganda machine, which should be taken into account. When analyzing the situation on the frontline, since the beginning of the year, Russia’s progress has fluctuated within the smallest ranges compared to all previous periods. In other words, the Russian advancement is about 18-20 km per day, which is a negligible indicator," explained Zgurets.
The analyst noted that despite Russia’s progress, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold the defense and are taking measures to further deter the Russian army.
"Therefore, in this situation, many factors need to be considered before drawing conclusions. However, we definitely should not fall into despair and should understand that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding the defense. Even the situation in the Kursk region shows that we have the capacity to carry out measures that continue to deter the Russians and inflict significant losses on them," he added.

In 2025, Ukraine Has Stemmed Russia's Advances To Smallest Since Invasion
Since the beginning of this calendar year, Ukrainian forces have held Russia to its smallest advances going back to the start of the invasion.
The reason appears to be that the Russian military is exhausted, is having trouble generating sufficient new recruits to replace its massive casualties and is running short of weapons and vehicles due to the rate of destruction they have experienced in the last year. In addition, Ukrainian forces' increasingly effective coordination of drones, artillery and armor has had a devastating effect on Russian units. JL
