Ukraine's 10th Mountain Bde Retakes Russian Oskil River Bridgehead

The significance of this operation is that it confirms Ukrainian forces are counterattacking opportunistically and successfully, limiting Russian advances across the front line and frustrating the Kremlin's goal of gaining more territory before Trump is inaugurated on January 20th. JL

Russian troops crossed the river a week ago south of Novomlynsk in the Kupyansk district and tried to gain a foothold in the town, creating a bridgehead for further advancement on the right bank of the Oskil River. Two days ago, they were driven out by the soldiers of the 10th Edelweiss Mountain Assault Brigade. As a result of the successful operation, the 8th Battalion of the 10th Edelweiss Mountain Assault Brigade drove the enemy out of Novomlynsk and cleared the surrounding area, regaining control of the area.

Russian troops landed on the right bank of the Oskil River and tried to gain a foothold in Novomlynsk but were driven out by the soldiers of the 10th Edelweiss Mountain Assault Brigade.

The Communications Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on this.

Having a superiority in forces, the enemy provided support and periodically ferried their units across the water barrier by boat from Dvorichne on the other side of the river.

According to the DeepState project, after gaining a foothold, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to move westward toward the village of Fiholivka but was fought off.

As a result of the successful operation, the 8th Battalion of the 10th Edelweiss Mountain Assault Brigade managed to drive the enemy out of Novomlynsk and clear the surrounding area, regaining control of the coast. In the video, the soldiers installed a Ukrainian flag in the village.

 

For the Russian invaders, the bridgehead in this place offers advantages: a high slope on the right bank, more than 40 meters high, covers the landing from direct fire from Ukrainian forces.

 

At the same time, the holding of Novomlynsk by Ukrainian troops is complicated by the same geographical conditions that force them to go around the settlement and move along the bank, which is under enemy fire.

The height itself is important for the Ukrainian Defense Forces, as it allows them to keep a large part of the left bank under fire control.

The other day, the DeepState project reported that the Russian military had forced the Oskil River to another place south of the village of Masiutivka.

 

In the future, these footholds could allow the enemy to develop an offensive, expand the penetration in the direction of Kupiansk, and cover it from the north.
