Ukraine Repeats Repulse of Russian Attacks On Kurakhove, Siversk

The Russians have tried repeatedly to storm Ukrainian positions around Kurakhove and Siversk, but continue to be decimated by Ukrainian drones, mines, artillery and infantry.

At Siversk, the Russians are now also trying to use cut down Zhiguli cars - with the same lack of success as they experienced with motorcycles and golf carts. JL

Militarnyi reports:

The 33rd Mechanized Brigade repulsed a mechanized assault by the Russians in the Kurakhove sector, (as)  the 54th Mechanized Brigade repelled a Russian assault in the Siversk direction. Strikes by Ukrainian artillery and tanks in cooperation with the operators of FPV strike drones did not allow the invaders to realize their plans. Russian infantrymen also tried to storm Ukrainian positions in VAZ Zhiguli cars.

The Ukrainian soldiers of the 33rd Mechanized Brigade repulsed a mechanized assault by the Russian invaders in the Kurakhove sector.

The brigade’s press service published a video of the combat operation.

The Russian invaders used armored vehicles to cover the actions of their infantry, which was supposed to seize Ukrainian positions. However, strikes by Ukrainian artillery and tanks in cooperation with the operators of FPV strike drones did not allow the invaders to realize their plans.

At least one Leopard 2A4 main battle tank was used to repel the Russian armored assault.

A unit of the National Guard of Ukraine, “Hostri Kartuzy,” whose soldiers are also fighting near Kurakhove, showed footage of the invaders destroyed over the past day.

“This is what the battlefield looks like in the Kurakhove direction after today’s attempt by the Russians to advance further,” the unit said.

The unit said that the several units of Russian unarmored vehicles with the Russian invaders killed inside had been burning right on the road.

“Those who managed to jump into the trenches were killed by drones because there was nowhere to hide,” noted “Hostri Kartuzy” unit.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 10:00 p.m. on November 17, 35 combat engagements with the invaders were registered in the Kurakhove direction.

The invaders tried to advance in the areas of Nova Illinka, Berestky, Voznesenka, Sontsivka, Zoria, Maksymilianivka, Dale, Kurakhove and Antonivka. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 20 enemy attacks. According to preliminary data, the enemy’s losses in killed and wounded in this direction amounted to 128 people.

At least two tanks, one armored personnel carrier, two vehicles, two motorcycles and one mortar were destroyed, and one enemy armored personnel carrier and one artillery system were damaged, the Ukrainian General Staff said.

The soldiers of the 54th Mechanized Brigade recently repelled a Russian assault in the Siversk direction.

The video was published by the press service of the Luhansk operational and tactical group.

According to the footage, the invaders used armored vehicles and infantry in the assault. The enemy’s movements were detected by Ukrainian defenders, who began to systematically destroy the Russian invaders.

After destroying the several units of Russian armored vehicles, enemy infantry landing from armored personnel carriers tried to gain a foothold in the forest.

However, Ukrainian drone operators and artillery struck at them. To eliminate the enemy, they used both cluster munitions and ammunition from drones.

The footage shows that two units of the Russian army’s combat vehicles are burning in the middle of the field.

“A new type of “heaters” for the Russians in the Siversk direction has already been turned on!” the military said in a statement.

The Luhansk operational and tactical group emphasized that the invaders’ manpower and armored vehicles had been destroyed by the 54th Mechanized Brigade.

Militarnyi recently reported that the soldiers of the K-2 battalion of the 54th Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa had published a video of Russian infantrymen trying to storm Ukrainian positions in VAZ Zhiguli cars.

The video shows that the Soviet-era cars are not ordinary, but “tuned”: the roofs of the cars are cut off, the doors are removed, and an anti-drone ‘grill’ with a camouflage net is welded instead of the roof.Previously, the soldiers of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion “K-2” of the 54th Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa captured a Russian export-intended T-90S tank. The captured T-90S is equipped with an anti-drone “grill”, electronic countermeasure means, television surveillance cameras, and a DIY trawl.

The most noticeable difference between the T-90S and the T-90A is the trapezoidal “Indian” ERA block, which is installed instead of the useless Shtora searchlight.
