US/UK Reportedly To Grant Permission For Ukraine ATACM Strikes On Russia

Russia's unceasing missile and drone attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine coupled with the news that Iran is providing missiles to Russia made this decision more politically palatable to NATO as they can blame Putin for being the aggressor on this escalation of hostilities. JL

The New Voice of Ukraine reports:

During his upcoming visit to Kyiv, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will announce that Washington no longer prohibits Ukraine from using ATACMS missiles to attack Russian territory. On Sept. 13, U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with UK PM Keir Starmer. According to Blinken, they may discuss granting permission for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to carry out strikes deep into Russia.UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Blinken plan to visit Kyiv this week.

During his upcoming visit to Kyiv, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will announce that Washington no longer prohibits Ukraine from using ATACMS missiles to attack Russian territory, Axios reported on Sept. 10.

The shift in U.S. policy was reported by Axios Capitol Hill reporter Juliegrace Brufke, citing Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“I spoke with Blinken two days ago, and he is going with his UK counterpart to Kyiv to essentially tell them that they will allow [strikes on Russia with ATACMS],” Brufke quoted McCaul in a Twitter post.

 

Earlier, it was reported that UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Blinken plan to visit Kyiv this week. This will be "the first such joint visit" in over ten years.

Blinken also stated that on Sept. 13, U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with UK PM Keir Starmer. According to Blinken, they may discuss granting permission for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to carry out strikes deep into Russia.
