Ukraine's Shkval Ex-Convict Battalion Join 24th Mechanized Brigade

Ukraine's first unit comprised of convicts who volunteered to fight for their country in return for elimination of their prison sentences has completed training and will be attached to the 24th Mechanized Brigade.

Ukraine's handling of these volunteers stands in harsh contrast to Russia's treatment of its convicts as cannon fodder. JL

Decimus reports in Daily Kos:

Ukraine’s Shkval Special Battalion highlights the difference between the two contending sides when it comes to the value of the lives of their soldiers.  While Russia choses to coerce their prisoners and by force turns them into cannon fodder, Ukraine gives willing prisoners the opportunity to voluntarily join the services to earn their freedom. Ukraine's ex-convicts are given solid training before being sent to the front by one of Ukraine’s most lionized formations … the 47th Brigade and then made full members of the 24th Mechanized Brigade
The story of Ukraine’s Shkval Special Battalion is one of those things in the current Russo-Ukrainian war which highlights in bold relief the difference between the two contending sides when it comes to the value of the lives of their soldiers.  While Russia choses to coerce their prisoners and by force turns them into cannon fodder, Ukraine gives willing prisoners the opportunity to voluntarily join the services to earn their freedom.

And not only that but the ex-convicts are given solid training and preparation before being sent to the front … trained by one of Ukraine’s most lionized formations … the 47th Brigade and then made full members of the 24th Mechanized Brigade..

And boy have they responded.  News come today that these Ukrainian ex-convicts are taking to their new role with gusto and taking the fight to the Russians … supported by Bradley Fighting Vehicles.
