Attacking Russian Soldiers Armed With 1891 Mosin-Nagant Rifle

It was a standard Russian infantry weapon in World War II...and World War I...and the Russo-Japanese War of 1905.

Its appearance among Russians killed on Ukrainian battlefields this summer suggests that reports of Russia running low on weapons are even more serious than previously thought. JL

New Voice of Ukraine reports:

Russian forces are storming Ukrainian positions armed with weapons dating back to the 1890s. At least one eliminated soldiers was not armed with the standard Kalashnikov rifle, the primary weapon of the Russian Armed Forces, but rather with a Mosin-Nagant 3-line rifle in use since 1891. Known as the 'Mosinka,' this firearm served in the Russian army during the Russian-Japanese War of 1904-1905 and both World Wars. The Russian Armed Forces are deploying weapons that truly have no modern equivalents."

The Russian forces, the so-called "second army of the world," are storming Ukrainian positions with weapons dating back to the previous century, the Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov reported on Telegram on July 3.

At least one of the eliminated soldiers was not armed with the standard Kalashnikov rifle, the primary weapon of the Russian Armed Forces, but rather with a Mosin-Nagant 3-line rifle, the photos show.

"30 enemies were liquidated in the attack," Butusov said.

"Most strikingly, one of the fallen attackers wielded a Mosin-Nagant rifle, in use since 1891. Known as the 'Mosinka,' this firearm served in the Russian army during the Russian-Japanese War of 1904-1905 and both World Wars. The Russian Armed Forces are deploying weapons that truly have no modern equivalents."
