Ukraine Deploying Robotic Machine Guns w Remote Control

Two Ukrainian made systems are being supplied to the Ukrainian Dept of Defense. The systems enable thinly held or exposed positions to increase their defensive capabilities.

Mobile robotic systems are also in development but installed systems have made it to the battlefield first. JL

Militarnyi reports:

The system can be installed in a trench with a control cable to a dugout. A neural network is integrated into the equipment’s combat system, which automatically calculates the distance to the object and ballistics, thus increasing the accuracy of fire. The module is controlled via a tablet and gamepad. The system operator can fire remotely at a distance of up to 100 meters from the turret. It can operate autonomously for 130 hours. The cost of the system, which includes a robotic turret and a control panel, is $10,000. Robotic turrets at the front line have been supplied to the 3rd Assault Brigade at its own expense.

The Ministry of Defense has contracted Wolly remote weapon systems manufactured by the Ukrainian company DevDroid.

Yuriy Poritsky, founder of DevDroid, reported this to dev.ua.

The Ukrainian arms company DevDroid has received a government order to supply Wolly RWS for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the contract, the order for 40 systems should be completed by July this year.

According to Poritsky, the cost of the system, which includes a robotic turret and a control panel, reaches $10,000.

“This is actually the price of a machine gunner’s life on the line of fire,” Poritsky notes. He added that in case of damage to the turret, a replacement unit for the system can be purchased for USD 5,000.

Currently, the Ukrainian military already uses Wolly robotic turrets at the front line. The company supplies the systems to the 3rd Assault Brigade at its own expense.

Wolly turrets

The Wolly turret is designed to mount 7.62 mm machine guns, including Soviet PKTs. The system operator can fire remotely at a distance of up to 100 meters from the turret.

The module is controlled via a tablet and gamepad. It can operate autonomously for 130 hours and weighs 30 kg (excluding the weight of the ammunition).

According to the developers, Wolly can be permanently installed in a trench with a control cable to the dugout.

A neural network is integrated into the equipment’s combat system, which automatically calculates the distance to the object and ballistics, thus increasing the accuracy of fire. The manufacturers also claimed the ability to recognize targets.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Defense contracted the supply of ShaBlya remote-controlled turrets.
