Ukraine Rockets Destroy 2 Weeks of Russian Ammo At Svatove, Also Hit Crimea

Retired US Army General Ben Hodges says, "The Russian army is not a learning organization."

Successive Ukrainian Himars, missile and drone attacks in the past few days on rear area ammunition storage, headquarters and troop barracks would appear to support that assertion. JL

Daily Kos reports:

Just a day after destroying an ammo dump in Donetsk stored in the same school building as hundreds of Russian soldiers, Ukraine has destroyed a huge Russian ammo dump near Svatove. The dump has been estimated to be stocked for two weeks. The big question is why are the Russians storing so much ammo in one place rather than having smaller amounts in multiple locations. DefMon asks who would locate such a huge ammo dump within HIMARS range.

Just a day after destroying an ammo dump in Donetsk stored in the same school building as hundreds of Russian soldiers, Ukraine has destroyed a huge Russian ammo dump near Svatove.

The exact size of the dump isn’t known, but it has been estimated that it has been stocked for two weeks.

DefMon asks who would locate such a huge ammo dump within HIMARS range. In this case the Russians might not have had any choice. If they want to have ammo to use in defending their positions at Svatove, there isn’t really any accessible place to put it that isn’t within HIMARS range.

The big question is why are the Russians storing so much ammo in one place rather than having smaller amounts in multiple locations.

There are photos posted on Twitter that purport to be from the attack but there is some doubt as to whether they are actually from that attack or some other. Haven’t seen any video from the attack either.

Sometimes the Russians make it easy to find targets to hit.

Ukraine are attacking Sevastopol in Crimea right now. When Crimea becomes untenable or falls — that is the war. It all falls very quickly thereafter.

Just as  General Hodges says — he is completely right. He has still said he does not believe it will fall until the summer — but he adds this — will be a lot shorter if Ukraine had longer range munitions.
