Why Ukraine Continues To Stall Russian Gains In Donbas
Assessment of satellite imagery and computer assisted identification of artillery and rocket fire suggest that Russia is falsely claiming to have captured towns still under Ukraine's control.
The Russian military leadership is evidently trying to keep Putin from firing them - literally or figuratively so are exaggerating advances which imagery reveals would mean shelling their own troops. Ukraine's success at stymieing the Russian advance is based on effective destruction of transportation and supply using NATO artillery and rockets. That is likely to continue. JL
Daily Kos reports:
Russia is stalled, pretending it is undertaking an “operational pause.”
In reality, Russia is 1) exhausted from the effort, 2) still unable to
cross the Donetsk river north of Sivers’k, 3) having to extend its
supply lines, something they suck at doing, and 4) dealing with HIMARS’
systematic destruction of supply depots, dramatically exacerbating those
supply problems. Transport times have doubled so they need twice the trucks to keep up the rate of delivery. (But) Russia doesn't have twice the trucks. The last time territory publicly changed hands in Ukrainewas July 9, and before that,July 6.
Both times, they were tiny settlements in the Donbas, as Russia
continues its bloody crawl toward Sivers’k—a town Russia should’ve taken
a long time ago.
