13th Russian General Killed In Ukraine. That's One Per Week Since Invasion Began

General Roman Kutuzov, commander of of the Donetsk People's Republic Army Corps, was killed leading an attack near Popasna, an area in the Donbas hotly contested by Russia and Ukraine.

Kutuzov apparently commanded recruits from Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, so they were probably not highly trained, motivated or well-equipped troops being used to follow up on Russian artillery barrages in order that Russian troops did not have to be risked. Serving as general in the Russian army in Ukraine remains a high risk occupation. JL

David Ganezer reports in The Observer:

Another senior Russian Army officer has been killed during Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Major General Roman Kutuzov (call sign "Fog") died in the course of a combat mission near the village of Nikolaevka, Popasna district, Luhansk. Kutuzov died, “leading the attack” of his subordinates. On the evening of June 4, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in the area of Nikolaevka and Belogorovka, Russian troops carried out “assault operations” and suffered “significant losses in manpower and equipment.”

Another senior Russian Army officer has been killed during Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Major General Roman Kutuzov (call sign "Fog") died in fighting in near #Popasna in Ukraine's occupied Luhansk province.

"This was announced on Sunday, June 5, by war correspondent Alexander Sladkov in his Telegram. "You left like a soldier, like a warrior. Not everyone is given this," the journalist said in the post. The Military Informant Telegram channel clarified that Kutuzov died in the course of a combat mission near the village of Nikolaevka, Popasnyansky district, Luhansk People's Republic." https://westobserver.com/news/europe/russian-major-general-died-during-a-special-operation-in-ukraine/

General Roman Berdnikov, the Commander of 29th Russian Army, killed in Ukraine (today or yesterday).

This number excludes one Russian Admiral killed by Ukraine, and one Russian Air Force Major General who died after his plane was shot down in Kherson province. By comparison, the number of flag officers killed in 100 days of combat in Ukraine, exceeds the number of US flag officers who died in 20 years of combat in Afghanistan, where only six died.

It is believed that due to poor radio communications, Russian generals have had to administer combat much closer to the battlefield than normal.

"It is noted that during his service, Kutuzov was awarded the Orders of Courage, "For Military Merit", Honor, as well as the medal "For Courage".

On June 2, it was reported that during the hostilities in the sky over the Lugansk region, the hero of Russia, retired Major General of the Russian Air Force, 63-year-old Kanamat Botashev, died. According to Baza, Botashev's plane was shot down, the pilot did not have time to eject."

From post in Sladkov’s telegram channel, it follows that Kutuzov died, “leading the attack” of his subordinates.

In the telegram channel “Reports from the militia of Novorossiya” was published information that Kutuzov died in the village of Nikolaevka near Popasna, in the Lugansk region.

On the evening of June 5, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reportedthat in the area of Nikolaevka and Belogorovka, Russian troops carried out “assault operations” and suffered “significant losses in manpower and equipment.”

Which unit was led by General Kutuzov has not yet been reported. In 2019, he was mentioned on the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation as the interim commander 29th Combined Arms Armyand in 2017 – 5th.

Due to poor radio communications, Russian generals were forced to conduct combat much closer to the battlefield than standard. On the evening of June 5, the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported that Russian troops carried out "assault operations" in the area of Nikolaevka and Belogorovka, resulting in "significant losses in manpower and equipment."
