Hot Air: Rush Limbaugh Declares Talk of US Heat Wave a Government Conspiracy

Space aliens being held in Area 51. Health care death panels. And now, a mid-summer heat wave. Government conspiracies all, we are advised.

Yup, we may all be delusional. Temperatures in the 100s (F), news reports about 24 deaths, sporting events cancelled, heat advisories for the elderly. It sure FEELs like a classic midsummer heat spell. No one's talking politics, or global warming, there's just that uncomfortable trickle of sweat down the back and into the nether regions. We know - TMI -but hey, it aint January and it tickles.

All in our minds, according to Rush Limbaugh, a radio personality. It is not really hot out, he says. We are being brainwashed. That sweaty brow? Those perspiration-soaked clothes clinging to your skin? Mind control. Besides, if you admit it's hotter than usual, you might have to acknowledge that killer tornados, historic floods and skiing in July are just, well, not exactly ordinary. Now, if he would only wish the recession away and make us all rich...JL

Andrew Schenkel reports on MNN:
Rush Limbaugh must be running out of material. Now he's telling his listeners that the media is blowing the current heat wave out of proportion. On his program this week, Limbaugh called out other pundits in the media — including the always level-headed Drudge Report — for overstating how hot it is. "Even Drudge. Drudge getting sucked in here. Gonna be 116 in Washington. No it's not. It's going to be like 100, maybe 99," said Limbaugh.

Of course, what the Drudge Report and many meteorologists have been referring to with the 116 figure is the heat index. The heat index tells people what it actually feels like, which in a swampy, steamy and humid place like Washington, D.C., is quite useful. On a personal level, the heat index tells us if we're going to sweat through three or four shirts on a daily basis. But to Limbaugh the heat index is nothing more than a vast left-wing conspiracy INSERT THE REST OF THE QUOTED ARTICLE TO APPEAR AFTER "READ MORE..." JUMP
